Choosing the right lampshade is a balance of proportion, shape, surface and colour. This guide is designed to help you find the right starting point, whether you are ordering a Signature Shade Design or enquiring about a bespoke painted piece.
As a general guide, the width or diameter of the shade should be approximately equal to the height of the lamp base. The shade should usually be wider than the widest part of the base, with the shade height around two-thirds of the base height.
For a quotation, please send the base, top and slope measurements of your shade, along with the fitting type if known.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order a bespoke shade?
Yes. Bespoke shades can be developed from your room scheme, fabrics, wallpapers, paint colours or inspiration images. Please send your shade measurements, preferred surface and any colour references, and I can advise on the best direction.
What measurements do I need to send?
Please send the base, top and slope measurements of your shade. If you are matching an existing shade, a photograph of it on the lamp base is also helpful.
What surfaces do you paint on?
Atelier Elizabeth Rose shades are painted on either cream card or raffia. Cream card gives a smoother, crisper finish, while raffia has a more natural texture and softer painterly quality. Other surfaces are available on request.
How long will my order take?
Most hand-painted and made-to-order pieces have an estimated lead time of 4–6 weeks. Ready-made items may be available sooner. Once your order has been placed, we will confirm the estimated timescale and delivery details.
Are bespoke pieces returnable?
Bespoke, made-to-order, personalised or custom-painted pieces are final sale unless faulty. This includes bespoke lampshades, custom colour-matched pieces and commissions created to a client brief.
