The surface of a painted shade has a quiet but important effect on the finished piece.
Atelier Elizabeth Rose shades are painted on either cream card or raffia, each giving a different character to the colour, brushwork and light.
Cream card offers a smooth, clean surface and allows the painted marks to feel crisp and expressive. Colours sit clearly on the surface, making it a beautiful choice for stripes, waves, colour-matched designs and more graphic painted details.
Raffia has a more natural texture, giving the paint a softer, more organic quality. The surface brings warmth and movement to the shade, and works particularly well for pieces where texture, atmosphere and a more relaxed painterly feeling are wanted.
Both surfaces are painted by hand in my Dorset studio and can be used for Signature Shade Designs or more bespoke painted pieces, including Landscape Lampshade™ commissions.
